In the last 24 hours, I said, “It’s in my top five books” twice, about two different books. This made me wonder what my top 5 really are… and here’s what I’ve come up with:
5. Peter Pan (Especially as illustrated by Trina Schart Hyman.)
4. Hamlet’s Blackberry (A practical philosophy for building a good life in the digital age.)
3. Made to Stick (A must-read for anyone with any interest in communication.)
2. Brothers Karamazov (Sprawling, crazy, turned my world upside down.)
1. First Samuel (Star Wars, eat your heart out.)
What are your top 5?

This is something I’ve been thinking about recently, as well. A couple of mine are plays, but I read them more often than I’ve seen them, so I’m going to call it fair.
1. The Iliad by Homer (changed the way I imagine, and introduced me to dichotomous values)
2.Hamlet by Wm. Shakespeare (changed my perception of the self and identity in the world)
3. The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery (changed my perceptoin of relationships)
4. The Crucible by Arthur Miller (changed/clarified my perception of heroism in the face of human nature)
5. Peter Pan (changed my perception of the value of innocence)
I’ve don’t have the mental energy to declare my top 5, but I can share some of my biggest influencers.
+Liberated Imagination by Ryken.
+Good to Great by Collins
+How to Read a Book by Adler
+Love the Lord with All your Mind by Moreland
+The Ten Faces of Innovation by Kelley (IDEO guys)
+Relationships: A Mess worth Making by Tripp
+A Praying Life by Miller
Also, Dave, have you read A Whole New Mind, by Dan Pink?
I want to read Drive by Pink. And so many other books…but alas mothering a 5 month old while teaching high school has me busy with other good things…
Liberated Imagination almost made my list, Connie! It’s in my top 10 for sure. I haven’t read A Whole New Mind … it looks really interesting, though. Have you read it, or is it on your to-read list?
